SmartShopper is an easy-to-use electronic device that helps you make your grocery list. Adding an item to your list is easy. Simply press record and speak the name of the item or items you wish to add. Press Print, and SmartShopper prints your list categorized by grocery departments such as "frozen foods" or "produce".
This nifty organizer from SmartShopper eliminates the need to dig up a pad of paper and a pencil and try to remember what you need when you want to make a shopping list. Keep this handy device stuck to your fridge magnetically, or mount it on the kitchen wall with the included kit, and you're set to go. At breakfast when the milk runs out, simply push the Record button and say "milk." At lunch when you realize you're out of bread, push and speak again. Kids will love helping out. You can also add errands, such as going to the bank or post office. Entries are automatically alphabetized. When you push the Print button, the list is printed with errands at the top and food items by category, to make your shopping expeditions more efficient.
Easy and intuitive to use, the SmartShopper is already loaded with state-of-the-art voice recognition software, a thermal printer that doesn't require ink, and 2,500 item names, for everything from brand-name cereals to antacids to paper towels. Three rolls of thermal paper are included as well. All you need to add are four AA batteries. Arrow buttons allow you to scroll through your list, delete an item if you wish, or add a customized item to the pre-loaded list. With its brushed metal exterior, large LCD window, and front-loading door for paper, the SmartShopper makes a great gift, especially for those who may have trouble writing due to arthritis and other health conditions. --Ann Bieri
needs improvementReviewed by DJ milbrew, 2010-03-08
A great idea that needs some improvement. Number one : eats batteries. Needs an AC adapter when being used at home to charge a battery or have ready to accept grocery items. Number two needs better voice recognition technology.
Don't Waste Your Time With This - Very FrustratingReviewed by B. Glas, 2010-02-24
I gave it two stars for the coolness factor. Otherwise it is VERY
frustrating. Its voice recognition is mediocre at best and flawed
at worst. To enter an item all you have to do is say it and, viola,
it appears?? I don't have an accent, yet it misinterprets what I
say. I try to clarify the speech in library management, but it
still doesn't always recognize what I'm saying. Adding items to the
library is more a waste of time than anything else. You have to
navigate the alphabet to spell the item you want. At best, the
stupid thing actually stops on the letter you want. Though it
usually decides, on its own, to jump three rows up and two rows
over (Or where ever it wants to go). It's like a game of alphabet
roulette; sometimes you hit the mark, most times not. I've even
seen it cycle through all the letters without stopping, simply
because I wanted to move one letter. It has a nifty voice
recognition feature for the alphabet as well, IF IT WORKED. Clearly
say any letter, and maybe it'll highlight the right one. I'm not
talking about letters that sound similar; i.e. b, c, t, z, etc. I
talking about things like x and it gives you r, or g and it gives
you o.
Get this if you want to look cool to your friends and family for
getting a neato new gadget or if you don't expect to add to the
library. Otherwise, stick to the old fashioned pencil and
paper.
Pretty Cool gadgetReviewed by Laura V. Reese, 2010-02-20
Purchased for my husband, he into gadgets. He loves it, very convinients. It prints out the list by categories and saves the lists until manually deleted. One of the downfalls is that some times it takes forever to understand what is being said. Noise has to be to its lowest or it will mess up. Another thing that might be a downfall is that is you are not a native English speaker the gadget has trouble understanding.
dosen't workReviewed by k mckey, 2010-02-14
I ordered this for my 83 yr. old Mom thinking it would help her with grocery list. It has a hard time recognizing her request for items. I tried it and got the same results. The products are in the register but it does not recognize the voice. It does not do what we expected it too and it is very frustrating. I will be returning it.
Handy but not highly cutting edge electronicReviewed by L. A. Mcleod, 2010-02-11
I gave this product for gifts for Christmas. Most people liked it
but the biggest complaint I heard was that the voice recognition
was not very good at all...especially if there is any background
noise...which is inevitable if you have a busy family where you
could really use one of these things. And don't even think about
having an accent or high or low pitched voice. Other than that most
people liked it and are using it.
